Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine started most volunteers in the charity shop have been asked if the charity is collecting for or has provided any humanitarian aid to the victims.
At a meeting of the trustees it was agreed that rather than collecting much needed items for use by displaced families the foundation should make a cash donation to the Ukraine Crisis fUND set up by The British Red Cross, a trusted UK charity formed over one hundred and fifty years ago.
When discussing the size of the donation to be made it was proposed that it should be not less than five thousand pounds, a sum in line with previous awards made to several organisations and groups within the village.
However since the backbone of the charity shop has always been to turn donated goods into cash and then distribute the money raised for use by good causes it was suggested that the shop should donate either all of its sales between April the 1st and Easter or the guaranteed five thousand pounds, whichever is the greater.
So, clear out the attic, as well as the garage and bring your donations to the tent in the rear yard. Whilst there pop into the shop and grab a bargain or just make a donation with the certainty that every penny rung into the till will find its way to The Red Cross appeal.
Alternatively, you can log onto the button below and donate via Just Giving. This money, including gift aid where claimed will be passed on to The Red Cross in addition to any other donations made by the foundation.
This is our chance to show everybody just how compassionate and caring South Woodham Ferrers is; after all we all need a little help sometime.
